Wallsend multi-vehicle crash leads to road closure with emergency services on scene
A multi-vehicle crash in Wallsend[1] has led to a major road closure[2], with emergency services on the scene. The incident, which took place between the A187 Hadrian Road and Coach Open just after 5pm, caused the closure of Stephenson Street in both directions. Northumbria Police[3], the North East Ambulance Service[4] and the Great North Air Ambulance Service[5] are all thought to have attended.
There is a police presence in the area after the crash, which looks to have involved a van and a motorcycle. The NEAS sent a double crewed ambulance, several paramedics and vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team. With one patient being taken by the Great North Air Ambulance to the RVI in Newcastle[6].
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a two vehicle road traffic incident on Stephenson Street, Wallsend[7] at 4.20pm this afternoon. "We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, a rapid response paramedic, a specialist paramedic, two vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a clinical team leader. "We were also supported by Great North Air Ambulance.
One patient was taken by air to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
