Which Flintshire and Wrexham cameras have caught drivers speeding the most?
Speeding is one of the largest contributing factors to collisions on Welsh roads according to GoSafe - a partnership made up of authorities including the Welsh Government and Wales emergency services. Not only is it dangerous but it can land you a fine and points on your licence. The minimum penalty for speeding is a GBP100 fine and three penalty points added to your licence.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request recently submitted to North Wales Police has revealed where in Flintshire and Wrexham speeding drivers have been caught out the most. TOP STORIES TODAY Data included figures from the start of 2024 up to March 25 of this year.
They revealed that the 50mph stretch of the A494 between Garden City (St David's Park Interchange) and Deeside Industrial Estate had the cameras (installed in 2021) with the most speeding drivers caught out during that period (10,148). That was followed by the 20mph road on the A5104 at Pontybodkin (installed in May 2023) which has caught out 8,991 drivers since the start of last year. The A548 at Oakenholt, which is a 30mph road, has caught out 5,330 drivers with its cameras that were installed in January 2023.
Meanwhile, 4,904 drivers have been caught speeding (cameras installed in 2021) along the A483 northbound junction 5-6 at Wrexham (50mph). Finally, on the list is B5129 at Pentre in Flintshire (20mph), where cameras were installed in October 2023. Those speed cameras have caught out 4,848 drivers since the start of 2024.
The 20mph zones are monitored as part of 'Operation Ugain'[1], which was launched by GoSafe and the Welsh police forces in January 2024.
