A590 crash: Police confirm no serious injuries sustained

Emergency services were called to a collision between a truck and a van between Newby Bridge and Greenodd at 4:10 pm on May 22 (Thursday). Cumbria Police have confirmed one driver was taken to Furness General Hospital but suffered no serious injuries. The air ambulance was in attendance.

Diversions were put in place from both eastbound and westbound directions.

Eastbound traffic was advised to:

  • Exit A590 at Greenodd and join the A5092
  • Continue on the A5092 to Lowick Green then turn right onto the A5084
  • Continue on A5084 to Torver and at junction of A5084/A593 turn right
  • Continue on A593 to Ambleside and then turn right onto the A5095 for a short distance before turning right again onto the A591 eastbound
  • At Windermere take third exit on roundabout, A592 towards Bowness
  • At Bowness mini-roundabout take second exit and continue on the A592 to rejoin A590 at Newby Bridge roundabout.

Westbound traffic was advised to:

  • Exit A590 at Newby Bridge and join the A592 towards Windermere In Bowness, at mini-roundabout take first exit onto A592.
  • At next roundabout take first exit onto A591 westbound
  • At Ambleside turn left onto the A5095 and follow road to junction with A593.
  • Turn left at junction onto A593 and continue on to Torver
  • In Torver, turn left onto the A5084
  • Turn left onto the A5092 and continue to junction of A5092 and A590 at Greenodd

The road eventually reopened four hours later around 8pm.
