A63 shut both directions after ‘HGV carrying hazardous chemical damaged’

The A63 has been shut near the Humber Bridge after reports of damage to a HGV carrying a hazardous chemical. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service[1] and Humberside Police are at the scene. Earlier, police warned people to avoid the affected stretch of the A63 between Melton and the Humber Bridge in Hessle.

The fire service said one lane of the A63 was shut eastbound, but westbound was open to traffic as normal. It said the HGV container was cracked, but there was not believed to be any risk to the public. In a statement, Humberside Police[2] said: "The A63[3] is currently closed both east and west bound between Melton and the Humber Bridge following reports of a heavy goods vehicle carrying a hazardous chemical having sustained damage.
