Crewkerne: Person hospitalised following lorry collision

Emergency services were notified of a major collision that occurred at around midday on Thursday, May 15 in Crewkerne Town Centre. An Avon and Somerset Police officer at the scene confirmed the incident was a "serious injury collision" that involved a lorry and a pedestrian. Multiple police vehicles attended the scene with the road into Crewkerne Town Centre fully closed and police tape put up around the site of the crash.

A spokesperson for the Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police are at the scene of a serious injury collision in Crewkerne. "Emergency services were called to the A356 Market Square at about 11.50am on Thursday, May 15 following a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV. "The casualty has gone to hospital with injuries currently described as life-changing.

"Officers have not yet been able to trace their next of kin. "If you saw the collision or have any dashcam, other footage or information, and have yet to speak with police, please call 101 and give the reference 5225135887." The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust sent two land ambulances, an operations officer and an air ambulance to the scene and took one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 11:41hrs on Wednesday 15 May to an incident in Crewkerne. "We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer and an air ambulance to the scene and we conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital." Residents at the scene said: "The pedestrian was clipped by the lorry and then fell under the wheels."

The police remain at the scene with the road still closed.
