The family of a man who sadly died after being struck by a car in Cumbria have paid tribute to 'the popular lad with the whole world at his feet'.

Cain Pears was killed in an incident[1] involving a red Ford Fiesta happened at around 3.20am on the A595 between Whitehaven[2] and Workington[3]. The crash occurred this morning (Monday, May 26) when 20-year-old Cain was pronounced dead at the scene, LancsLive reports[4].

The family of Cain, from Ellerbeck Lane Workington, have paid tribute to him. In a statement, his family said: "Cain was such a popular lad and had the whole world at his feet and was carving out a wonderful future ahead of him.

The world is a darker place without his smile and infectious laugh.

"Cain was a talented footballer and training to be quantity surveyor and loving it. He loved his friends, his girlfriend, and his family so dearly and we him.

"There are no words to describe the void he leaves behind as he truly touched so many lives for the good, sleep easy son xxx"

Cain's family have also expressed a sincere and heartfelt thanks, as well as sympathies and compassion to emergency responders police, paramedics and anyone who witnessed the scene. Officers continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information on the incident.

Anyone who may know something, or have dashcam footage which could assist with the investigation, should contact police.
