Live M6 updates after lorry fire causes ‘severe delays’

Road closures are in place on the M6 due to a lorry fire. Drivers are facing delays of 50 minutes on the motorway this afternoon following the blaze between junction 31 for Preston and junction 30 for Bamber Bridge. National Highways North West said three of four lanes are currently closed on the motorway[1], with approximately 5.5 miles of congestion on the approach.

Photos show firefighters at the scene and smoke coming from a lorry. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service[2] said in a statement on its website: "On the 22nd May 2025 at 10:22, four fire engines from Preston, Bamber Bridge and Leyland attended an incident on the M6. "The fire involved one heavy goods vehicle. Fire fighters used two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire, crews remain in attendance."
