M1 crash police statement in full as man rushed to hospital
A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car on the M1[1]. West Yorkshire police were called to junction 47 on the M1 at 1.38pm on Wednesday afternoon to reports of a serious crash. Ambulance crews were also called to the scene.
There, a man had been hit by a car while on the M1 northbound carriageway. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Now, a road closure has been put in place while an investigation into the crash continues.
West Yorkshire Police said: "Emergency services were called to the M1 Northbound at junction 47 at 1.38pm this afternoon to a report of a serious collision. Police and ambulance services attended the incident in which a male appears to have been struck by a vehicle while on the carriageway. "The male suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A road closure is in place at the location while investigation work is carried out and drivers are urged to avoid the area." The M1 northbound remains closed from junction 46 to junction 47. Congestion is building to junction 44 as a result of the crash.
