M4 crash between car and lorry causes long queues for drivers at rush hour
There was heavy traffic on the M4 near Newport after a collision involving a car and a lorry on Friday morning (May 30). The M4 westbound was partially blocked between J37 (Highcross) and J28 (Tredegar Park) while the incident was dealt with. Lanes 2 and 3 were closed shortly after 6am.
Gwent Police asked people to avoid the area and find alternative routes for their journey. Long queues were reported, with delays of up to 28 minutes back to J25 at Caerleon. Both lanes reopened shortly after 8am, but residual delays remained.
No injuries were reported. There was also another incident on the M4 near Cardiff. A car fire shortly before 7am left one lane of the slip road at J32 near Coryton closed. A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision heading west on the M4 between junctions 27 and 28 at around 6am on Friday 30 May. "The collision involved two vehicles - a car and a lorry. There were no reports of any injuries."
