M42 shuts near Birmingham Airport as drivers face heavy delays
Heavy traffic delays are expected near BHX

A section of the M42 northbound, near Birmingham Airport, was closed tonight following a crash.
Police were called to J5 of the major motorway after a car crashed into a bridge.
The junction was closed for a period but has since reopened with serval lanes still shut.

At time of publication, three out of four lanes were shut following the collision which was first reported at around 7.30pm.

Drivers were warned to allow extra time for their journeys.

The latest travel update on travel tracker Inrix reads: "Queueing traffic and three lanes closed due to bridge struck by vehicle on M42 northbound at J5, A41 Solihull[3] by-pass (Solihull/Knowle).
"Lanes two, three and four (of four) are closed."
National Highways West Midlands wrote on social media platform X earlier this evening: "Due to an ongoing West Midlands Police-led incident, the M42 north is currently closed within J5 for Solihull.

"Traffic officers are on scene to assist and traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.
"Please allow extra time for your journey this evening."
