M6 traffic: Long delays and lanes closed after woman seriously hurt in crash
Drivers are being warned to expect disruption following a crash on the M6 which left a woman seriously injured. Traffic is tailing back on both the M6 and M61 northbound following a collision near Preston. All traffic was stopped following a crash involving a lorry and a van between junctions 31A and 32.
Two lanes of traffic later reopened. A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "At 5:42am today (Thursday, May 15) we were called to reports of a collision between a van and a lorry on the M6 northbound between junction 31A and 32, near Preston. "Emergency services attended and a woman in her 40s was taken to hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.
"The motorway was closed for a period, northbound between junction 31A and 32. Two lanes have now been reopened." Queues are building approaching the scene and there is slow traffic on the A59 in Preston as drivers divert from the motorway.
All lanes have since reopened, with some delays remaining in the area. Meanwhile, the M65 westbound was closed between junctions three at Riley Green and junction two for the M61 overnight, following a crash which led to a fuel spillage. National Highways said an 'extensive clear up' was required at the scene.
The road reopened shortly after 7am. A National Highways spokesperson said: "Once units got to scene, it was reported that a large fuel spillage had crossed the carriageway following the collision which required an extensive clear up." This is a live event.
