Major delays on M40 after ‘substantial’ fuel spill across carriageway

There are major delays on the M40 in Buckinghamshire after a crash caused fuel to spill across the carriageway.

Fire crews and traffic officers were called to the carriageway at around 8.30am on Monday (12 May).

It follows reports of a "substantial fuel spillage" between J6 (Lewknor/Watlington) and J5 (Stokenchurch).

A Thames Valley Spokesperson said: "At around 8.19am today (12/5), we were called to a serious injury road traffic collision on the M40 southbound between Junction 6 and Junction 5.

"A lorry overturned and a man sustained serious injuries, requiring hospital treatment, where he remains.

"Anyone who witnessed this collision or has information, should call 101, quoting 43250231378."

A diversion is in place and drivers are being advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol.

National Highways is urging people to allow for extra journey time.

It says drivers may wish to re-route or even delay their journey.
