Man dies after being hit by car on M1 Leeds while ‘collecting ladders’

A man has died after being hit by a car on the M1, with the police now launching a new appeal for information. On Wednesday, May 21, a 67-year-old man was hit by a Toyota Rav 4 car, around half a mile from junction 47[1] on the northbound carriageway of the M1, at 1.30pm. He suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

It is believed he was trying to recover ladders from the road after they fell from the roof of the Ford Ranger he was travelling in. Earlier today, May 27, the man sadly died. Now, the crash is being investigated by the Major Collision Enquiry Team, who were keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash.

They are also looking to speak with anyone who saw the ladders on the road. A man was interviewed voluntarily by the police on the same day as the crash, and he has been released under investigation. West Yorkshire Police[2] said: "Police are re-appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a pedestrian who was seriously injured in a collision on the M1 in Leeds died in hospital earlier today (27/5).

"The 67-year-old male suffered life-threatening injuries after he was involved in a collision with a Toyota Rav 4 car, about half a mile from the Junction 47 exit on the northbound carriageway at about 1.30pm on Wednesday, 21 May.

"It is believed he was struck while trying to recover ladders from the carriageway after they fell from the roof of the Ford Ranger vehicle he was travelling in. The collision is now being investigated by the Major Collision Enquiry Team, who are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed it, or anyone who saw the ladders falling on to the carriageway. "A man who was interviewed voluntarily by officers on the same day as the collision has been released under investigation."
