Man dies and woman critical after horror Gwynedd multi-vehicle crash
A man has died following a crash in Gwynedd. The elderly driver was involved in a collision between two cars and a truck on the A5 Beach Road, Bangor[1], on Tuesday afternoon (April 29). A woman remains in a critical condition and two others suffered "serious injuries".
The road was closed for hours with multiple emergency services at the scene. North Wales Police[2] (NWP) was alerted to the incident - directly outside the city's ambulance station - shortly before 1pm. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Yaris., a Vauxhall Vivaro and a flatbed transit.
The elderly male driver of the Toyota Yaris was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Sadly, he died during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, April 30). The female passenger was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd[3], Bangor, where she remains in a critical condition.
Both female occupants of the Vauxhall Vivaro were also taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd with serious injuries. Det Insp Tim Evans of NWP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time.
"We'd like to thank all those who have already spoken to us. However we are appealing for witnesses or anybody who may have been travelling along Beach Road just prior to the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward. "The road was closed for a number of hours to allow our forensic collision team to carry out initial enquiries and I would like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience."
