Motorcyclist taken to hospital after crash with ambulance on A259 Dymchurch Road in New Romney
A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with leg injuries after a crash with an ambulance outside a Sainsbury's store. The A259 Dymchurch Road in New Romney is closed between the B2071 Station Road and St Mary's Road.
The van involved was a South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) vehicle, which was responding to an emergency at the time. The crew were uninjured, and different teams were sent out to the call they were driving to, and the scene of the crash.
The road was closed for several hours, but has since reopened. A SECAmb spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a collision with a motorbike at approximately 8.15am today on the A259 Dymchurch Road. "The ambulance was responding to an emergency in the area at the time, and other vehicles were assigned to attend to the emergency.
"Additional ambulances attended the scene of the collision, and the motorcyclist was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to William Harvey Hospital with injuries, including leg injuries.
"Thankfully, the three crew onboard the ambulance were uninjured." A police spokesman added: "We were called to a report of a collision involving a motorbike and an ambulance in Dymchurch Road, New Romney at 8.19am today. "Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist has been taken to a local hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening.
"Officers remain at the scene working to reopen the road."
Traffic information site Inrix reported slow traffic due to the crash.
