One person taken to hospital after A19 crash as police and paramedics called to scene

One person has been taken to hospital following a crash on the A19[1] southbound in Teesside. Emergency services were called to the carriageway between the A689 at Wolviston[2] and the A1027 at Norton[3] shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, May 27. The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed one patient has been taken to the University Hospital of North Tees[4] for treatment.

Long tailbacks remain on the A19 southbound as emergency services deal with the incident. A photograph from the scene shows damage to a white truck following the multi-vehicle collision. The number of vehicles involved in the crash has not been confirmed at this time.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police[5] said: "We're currently dealing with a multi-vehicle RTC on the A19 southbound between the A689 at Wolviston and the A1027 at Norton. "Please expect delays while we deal with the incident. Thank you for your patience and co-operation."

The AA is reporting 'severe delays' in the area of around 16 minutes as the average speed of vehicle drops to 5mph.

While the carriageway has not been closed, it remains partially blocked at this time. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 1.03pm on Tuesday, May 27, to reports of a road traffic incident on the A19 southbound near Billingham[6]. We dispatched an ambulance crew to the scene and transported one patient to the University Hospital of North Tees for further treatment."
