Woman suffers serious injuries after crash on the M6
Emergency services rushed to the northbound carriageway between J31a and J32 after a collision between a van and a lorry. Police[1], fire crews, and paramedics all arrived at 5.40 am and assisted a woman who was later transported to the hospital[2] with serious injuries. No arrests have been made at this time.
A Lancashire Constabulary spokesperson said: "At 5:42am today (Thursday 15th May) we were called to reports of a collision between a van and a lorry on the M6 northbound between Junction 31A and 32, near Preston. "Emergency services attended and a woman in her 40s was taken to the hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries. "The motorway was closed for a period, northbound between Junctions 31A and 32.
Two lanes have now been reopened."
The incident also caused congestion for routes through Preston and resulted in delays as long as an hour and a half to some journeys. Elsewhere, the M65 was also closed for a substantial period of time between J3 and J2 on the Westbound carriageway due to a road traffic collision at 3.30 am.
This caused a 'large fuel spillage' on the carriageway between Riley Green and Brindle and the M61 junction.
National Highways said the motorway remained closed westbound until 7am due to the debris and fuel spill.
