A14 remains closed after serious early morning crash

The A14 remains closed after a serious collision early this morning. National Highways said a HGV and a van were involved in a crash on the major road at around 4.15am. It was blocked between junction 47a near Elmswell and junction 49 at Tot Hill, and westbound between junctions 49 and 47 at Woolpit to allow the emergency services including East of England Air Ambulance to work at the scene.

The westbound carriageway reopened at around 5.15am but the eastbound stretch remains closed for investigations which are being led by Suffolk police. National Highways area team crews have been dispatched to clear a spillage from the collision once police investigations are complete. ADVERTISEMENT

The extent of any injuries remains unknown but the East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

Traffic is being rerouted via the A143 and A140 and road users are advised to follow the "hollow circle" diversion symbol on road signs.
