A34: National Highways reopens road after huge lorry fire

The southbound carriageway had been closed for most of yesterday and overnight to allow for repair work, including road resurfacing, following a lorry fire. Firefighters were called shortly after 3.30am on Monday, June 9 to put out the HGV at Chieveley which was engulfed in flames. At just after 5am this morning, National Highways posted an update saying: "The A34 is now open southbound within M4 at Chieveley.

"Thank you for your patience."

Firefighters from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service from Newbury and Theale attended the blaze, alongside a water carrier from Bracknell fire station.

Three crews and one officer from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also helped put the fire out.
