A350: Road closed after false alarm lorry fire in Melksham
At just after 4pm on Wednesday, June 25, a fire crew from Trowbridge attended an incident on the A350 between Littleton roundabout and Hampton Park West roundabout in Melksham following reports that smoke was coming from a lorry parked at the side of the road. The road was closed in both directions and police warned drivers to find alternative routes. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said on Wednesday evening: "The road is likely to remain closed for the next couple of hours.
"Please find alternate routes." Recommended reading Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed the lorry had an oil leak, which was mopped up at the scene.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to the A350-A365 junction in Melksham at 4.05pm yesterday (25 June) after reports of smoke coming from an articulated lorry parked at the side of the road. "One crew from Trowbridge attended and found the lorry had an oil leak. Environmental packs were used to mop up the oil and our stop was at 4.42pm.
This was a false alarm with good intent as there was no fire."
