A44 Worcester crash: Air ambulance called to Broadwas

The A44 was closed for a number of hours today (June 19) near Broadwas following a two-vehicle crash on the A44 in which three people were injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 1pm and found a man and a woman trapped in their vehicles before being released by firefighters. A woman, who was the driver of a car, has sustained serious injuries following the crash on the A44 and has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by land ambulance.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at around 1pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on the A44, Broadwas. "Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene. "Upon arrival we found three patients.

"Firstly, a woman who was the driver of the car. "She was assessed and had sustained serious injuries. "She received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by land for further treatment.

"A man and a woman who were the driver and passenger in the van were assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. "They received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Worcester Royal Hospital by land for further assessment." A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Two crews - one each from Malvern and Worcester Fire Stations - were called at 1.06pm on June 19 to an RTC involving small vehicles on the A44 at Broadwas.

"The incident involved two vehicles, both of which were on all four wheels. "One male casualty and one female casualty were trapped and released by fire service personnel before being handed over, along with a third casualty, to the care of the ambulance service who attended along with police and air ambulance. "The A44 was closed in both directions."

A West Mercia Police spokesperson confirmed that officers were at the scene of the incident and would remain to assist other emergency services and manage the road closure.
