A456 Birmingham Road: Drone footage shows aftermath of crash

Two men were taken to hospital following the vehicle fire on the A456 Birmingham Road on Thursday (June 19). West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called at around 6.40am to the collision involving a car and a van. The Droneserve social media channel shared footage of the scene from a bird's eye view.

It shows the road blocked off by emergency services dealing with the incident. [embedded content] Two ambulances and two paramedic officers attended the scene and found two men, who were the drivers of the vehicles.

They were taken to hospital for further assessment. Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene, which they said involved a car and a van, which caught fire and then spread to an uninvolved vehicle. The fire was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two foam hose reels and two dry-powder extinguishers.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wyre Forest Fire Station were called at 6.46am on June 19 to an RTC involving small vehicles in Birmingham Road, Blakedown. "The incident involved a car and a van with a fire which had spread to an uninvolved vehicle, extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two foam hosereels and two dry-powder extinguishers. "A large quantity of clothing which has been removed from the rear of the van is being extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.40am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on Birmingham Road, Blakedown in Kidderminster. Two ambulances and two paramedic officers attended the scene. "Upon arrival, we found two men who were the drivers of the vehicles.

Both were assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. "They received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Alexandra Hospital for further assessment." The road was closed by West Mercia Police whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

Traffic was slow in the area with many cars being forced to turn around. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a van on the A456 Birmingham Road between Blakedown and Hagley around 6.40am this morning (Thursday, June 19) which caused the van to set fire and another vehicle behind the collision to catch fire afterwards following a fuel leak. "Fire and ambulance also attended.

One of the drivers was taken to hospital with injuries sustained in the collision. Another person was injured and assessed at the scene. No-one was arrested.

"The road is currently closed.

Highways are taking over the closure with the road expected to need resurfacing so it will be closed for some time."
