Detective from Essex Police saves the day at A12 crash
Det Con Kimberley Farrow was driving to work at about 7am on Monday, June 16, when she saw a collision ahead of her, which had happened just moments earlier, at Junction 25 towards Marks Tey. It was unclear whether anyone was hurt, but smoke was coming out of one of the cars. Det Con Farrow called police, firefighters and ambulances to the scene, and used her own car to block off the affected lanes.
She began to direct traffic and try to move those involved to a safer location. Unfortunately her own car did not contain police kit such as a fire extinguisher. Det Con Farrow said: "I was getting more and more worried about the smoking car, and knew the lorries passing in the last open lane may have one on board.
"If it had caught fire, the situation could have become very dangerous very fast. "One driver kindly stopped and used his extinguisher to make sure the car was safe, but before I could thank him he had left. "I want to say a proper thank you - the least we can do is replace that extinguisher."
Emergency services arrived soon after the lorry had left.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported and the road was cleared by 9.30am.
