M6 police hand fines to ‘convoy of caravans’ at Stafford services
Police handed out fines to three drivers after a convoy of caravans stopped at motorway services on the M6.[1] The graduated fixed penalty notices (GFPNs) were handed out to the van drivers at Stafford[2] Services. Staffordshire Police[3] said it had stopped a van towing a caravan because it wasn't displaying the correct vehicle registration mark (VRM). During the police stop, several others vans and caravans also arrived at the scene.
Officers carried out further checks and issued three GFPNs for no insurance, resulting in a number of vans being seized. StaffsRCT shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of two vans parked up, along with a police officer, two members of the public and a small dog. The police account posted: "We went to stop a van towing a caravan which wasn't displaying correct VRM on the caravan at M6 Stafford Services.
As we stopped, a convoy of other vans and caravans stopped with us.
Checks resulted in three GFPNs issued for no insurance, and the vans were seized."
