Man dies after A38 crash which saw two people arrested

A four-vehicle collision on the A38 which saw the road closed for hours has resulted in the death of a driver. On Monday, June 9, at just after 8.50pm, a collision occurred[1] between a silver BMW 3 Series, an Audi A5, an HGV and a Ford Focus on the northbound carriageway close to the A50 roundabout. The driver of the BMW, a man in his 40s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died. A woman and a man, both in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remain on bail as inquiries continue.

Officers investigating the collision have now appealed for the driver of a silver Mini to come forward. It is thought the Mini, which has a black stripe on the rear wing and a Union Jack on the roof, was overtaken by the BMW at around 8.40pm on Hawkins Lane in Burton on Trent. Derbyshire police would like to speak to the driver of the Mini as a witness as they are thought to have information which could help move the investigation forward.

Anyone who saw the vehicles before the collision, witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is also asked to contact the force.

The driver of the Mini and anyone who holds relevant information has been asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary via their website[2], the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page or by calling 101, quoting the reference 25000335063.
