Man dies and teenage girl injured in head-on crash with BMW

A man has died and a teenage girl has been injured after a collision on the A607 between Leicester and Melton[1]. The crash happened at about 6.13pm on Friday and the road remained shut to traffic overnight and throughout Saturday. This afternoon (Sunday, June 29) Leicestershire Police[2] released details about the crash, which involved the Vauxhall Corsa the man and the teenage girl were in and a BMW convertible.

Police said two people, aged 33 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving[3] and driving while under the influence of alcohol. The police statement about the incident said: "A man has died following a two-car collision on the A607 at Frisby on the Wreake and two people have been arrested. The force was called at 6.13pm on Friday evening to a report of a two-car collision.

"An orange BMW convertible car was travelling away from Melton when it collided with a Vauxhall Corsa car, travelling in the opposite direction. A man in his 30s, in the Corsa, was pronounced dead at the scene. "The passenger in this car, a teenage girl, has been taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

"Two men were arrested in connection with the collision. A 33-year-old and a 25-year-old were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol. "They have been released under investigation while enquiries continue."

The crash happened about six hours before another fatal collision in Leicestershire in which a 19-year-old woman came off her motorbike[5] and was hit by a car on the M69 between Hinckley[6] and Leicester. Officers investigating the A607 crash want to speak to anyone who saw the BMW before the collision. They are also hoping to trace a lorry driver who was in the area when the crash happened but has not yet spoken to detectives.

Today Detective Sergeant Mike Steer from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "We want to speak to anyone who saw this BMW driving in the minutes leading up to the collision - any information will help our investigation. "I also want to make a direct appeal to a HGV driver who we know was in the area when the collision happened. The dashcam in the vehicle may show exactly what happened - please contact us.

"This collision has left one person dead and another seriously injured so any small piece of information may help.

"Any dashcam footage may prove vital."
