Man disqualified from driving after he was caught doing 46mph on a motorway

Andrew Lawton, 49, appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (June 18) charged with exceeding the speed limit on a motorway. Lawton, of St Michael's Road, Rugeley, Staffordshire, was snapped by a variable speed camera on August 28, 2024, while driving a Peugeot six miles above the posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour, which had been reduced from 70 miles per hour. He was caught while driving between junction 15A and junction 15 of the M1, near Northampton.

Lawton also appeared in court for two counts of exceeding a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M5. On June 20, 2024, Lawton drove a Peugeot along the M5 northbound between junction 6 (Worcester/Pershore) and junction 4a (M42) at a speed breaking the temporary limit in place on the motorway. On June 24, 2024, Lawton drove a Peugeot along the M5 southbound between junction 4a (M42) and junction 6 (Worcester/Pershore) at a speed breaking the temporary speed limit in place on the motorway.

For the M1 speeding offence, Lawton received a six-month disqualification and three penalty points on his licence.

He was also ordered to pay a GBP40 fine and costs of GBP130.

For the M5 speeding offences, Lawton was fined GBP40 and received three penalty points for each offence.
