Pensioner on mobility scooter, 70, dies after being struck by military truck

A pensioner has died after he was struck by a military truck in North Yorkshire. The man, 70, was on a mobility scooter on the A6136 Catterick Road, near the junction with Colburn Lane yesterday (June 11) when the crash happened at around 12.50pm. Emergency services including police and multiple ambulance vehicles attended the scene - but despite their best efforts the man died whilst being airlifted to hospital.

The road was closed for several hours, and eventually re-opened at 7.10pm. North Yorkshire Police have confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway, and have also confirmed that the driver and passenger in the military truck, both men, are assisting them. ADVERTISEMENT

The force are also now asking for any witnesses with dash cam footage or information to come forward.

A statement read: "If you witnessed the collision and have not yet made a report to the police, please come forward as soon as possible to assist our investigation.

"This also includes motorists with relevant dashcam footage of the collision itself or the vehicles prior to the incident.
