Police called to crash on Mersey Street in Warrington

At 2.40pm, officers were called to a crash on Mersey Street near to Bridge Foot. It involved two cars, a grey Volkswagen Polo and a black BMW. According to a Cheshire Police spokesperson, there were no reports of any serious injuries.

An ambulance also attended. Those passing the scene advised other motorists to 'avoid Bridge Foot' due to a lane being closed following the incident. It comes following what has been a day of heavy traffic in the town following the closure of the M62 in Winwick.

This was after a lorry collided with railings on the motorway bridge which resulted in fuel spilling onto the below carriageway.

National Highways has reported that although the eastbound carriageway has reopened, the westbound will remain closed into the evening as resurfacing takes place.
