Update issued on busy Renfrew route closure after lorry crash

Arkleston Road has been shut since June 4 after a lorry crashed into a bridge. The crash caused major delays on the M8 westbound before the carriageway reopened at 7pm. Transport Scotland indicated on June 11 that a closure would be required for six months.

However, councillor Jim Paterson has now revealed on social media that one lane on the route will be reopened "within the next week". A statement from Transport Scotland read: "From our initial reviews of information available, we believe we can reopen one lane and implement temporary barrier and traffic lights on the overbridge within the next week or so. "Amey have been undertaking more precise surveys and confirming against assessment outputs to make sure everything is safe."

Paterson insists that "although not ideal" to have temporary traffic management in place it is "positive progress" from the initial closure details.
