Van driver in Royal Stoke after smash shuts A500
Police and paramedics were sent to the scene

A van driver was taken to hospital after a crash shut part of the A500. Police and paramedics had been called to the westbound carriageway between Audley and the M6.
And during the height of Saturday morning's incident that part of the A500 had to be shut off. Today and West Midlands Ambulance Service[1] has confirmed one patient was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[2] - while a second was discharged at the scene.
The collision had occurred at around 8am.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van. One ambulance attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found two men who were the drivers of the vehicles. The first was the driver of the van who was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.
He was conveyed to Royal Stoke Hospital for further assessment.
The second was the driver of the car who was assessed and received self care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene."
A Staffordshire Police[3] spokeswoman said: "We were called to the A500 in Newcastle-under-Lyme following reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.
