Residents of a village on the edge of Bristol say they are so fed up with the number of car crashes on their high street that they are getting together a petition to call for action.

Neighbours are calling for measures to make High Street in Warmley safer, claiming that 'numerous prangs' are a 'weekly occurrence' there, with speed at least partly to blame.

The road was closed again last weekend following a collision between a van and a local resident's vehicle.

Images shared with Bristol Live show police on scene and significant damage caused.

The crash happened at 6.30pm on Saturday, June 7, but according to local resident Paul Swindlehurst, it's just the latest incident.

The issue villagers have is that Warmley's High Street is also the main A420 road between East Bristol and Chippenham, so is used by HGVs and has lots of through-traffic round the clock.

"This was yet another high-speed crash in Warmley on the High Street - this is the fourth car written off this year, along with numerous prangs that seem to be a weekly occurrence," claimed Mr Swindlehurst.

"The residents on the High Street continue to make complaints to South Gloucestershire[1] Council.

The current and previous MP have been informed about this situation."

He added that residents are now planning to visit the council with a petition.
