A35 crash near Kingston Russell: Two taken to hospital

The collision took place this morning on the A35 between Bridport and Dorchester, near to the Kingston Russell turning. A road closure remained in place for approximately four hours whilst the emergency services dealt with the crash. Police, the fire service and the ambulance service all attended the scene and firefighters had to cut the door off one of the cars involved.

No serious injuries were reported, according to police. As a result of the closure, there was traffic chaos along the A35 and its surrounding roads. West Dorset photographer Graham Hunt said: "When I arrived, there was a queue stretching past Kingston Russell turning to the dual carriageway.

Vehicles were trying to use back roads and ended up getting stuck. "A lorry got stuck down Long Bredy Hut Lane. "There was still a car on the verge with police tape on it."

Heavy traffic was also reported along the coast road at Abbotsbury and Burton Bradstock due to motorists seeking the alternative route. A spokesperson for Dorchester Fire Station said: "At approximately 10.13am, a crew from Dorchester were mobilised to a road traffic collision between Dorchester and Bridport. "Upon arrival, crews found two cars and one lorry involved.

Fortunately everyone was already out of one car and lorry, but we had to cut the door off and release one further casualty. By this time, Bridport had arrived and helped support us. "Once the casualty was cleared of the car and into an ambulance, crews made up and have left the in incident with the police."
