A422 Alcester Road crash: man killed and driver arrested

The van driver, who was in his 30s, died following a crash on the A422 at Flyford Flavell yesterday (July 30). The A422 was subsequently closed for the eight hours before reopening at around 2am this morning (July 31). Another man, who is also in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.

An air ambulance landed nearby with police, firefighters and ambulance crews also at the scene. A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and a van on the A422 Alcester Road at Flyford Flavell at around 4.55pm yesterday (Wednesday 30 July). "Air ambulance, ambulance crews and fire crews also attended.

"Unfortunately, the van driver, a man in his 30s, was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. "A third vehicle was on the road at the time of the collision and a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.

"The driver of the HGV was not injured. "The road was closed until around 2am this morning (Thursday 31 July)." West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for further comment.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Three Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews - one each from Worcester, Droitwich and Redditch Fire Stations - were called at 4.55pm on July 30 to an RTC involving a large vehicle on the Alcester Road at Flyford Flavell.

"Police, air ambulance and ambulance also attended and in view of the outcome, police will be handling comms around this incident."
