‘David and Goliath’ Lancs water tunnel vehicle plan halted over road safety concerns
A plan for a water tunnel workers' car park and HGV site near Clitheroe[1] and the A59 has hit the buffers - after councillors called for an independent traffic safety study, likely to be at the borough's own expense.
Ribble Valley[2] councillors also want a proposed new cycleway and footpath to be a higher standard, and have asked if an existing roundabout elsewhere in Clitheroe can be widened for better traffic movement. Advertisement Advertisement

Councillors have paused an application by water company United Utilities to create a marshalling area on land off the A671 Pimlico Link Road near Clitheroe in connection with the new Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP), to build a new water tunnel from the Lake District[3] through Lancashire[4] to Greater Manchester[5].
