M60 traffic LIVE updates as motorway CLOSED following crash

There are severe delays on the M60 with the motorway shut both ways after a eight-vehicle crash today. Emergency services were called out to the scene between between junctions 27 at the Portwood roundabout and junction one for the Stockport Pyramid just before 11.30am this morning (July 7). Both carriageways have been closed after the crash, which involved four HGVs and four cars.

Thankfully, nobody has been seriously hurt but a number of people have suffered 'minor injuries'. One HGV is said to have crossed through the central reservation and struck 'several lamp columns in the process'. Another HGV shed its load of beer barrels into the carriageways as a result.

There are also said to be 'several ruptured fuel tanks' leaking diesel. The closure is expected for 'some time', travel services have said, with drivers urged to find alternative routes. A National Highways statement just after 1pm said: "Greater Manchester Police, Manchester Fire & Rescue, North West Ambulance Service, National Highways Traffic Officers and maintenance contractors are attending this incident.

"It has been confirmed there were only minor injuries from the collision but it is expected the road will remain closed in both directions for a substantial amount of time due to the amount of infrastructure damage, spillage, debris clean-up and the recovery of several substantially damaged large vehicles."
