Man, 85, who died in three-vehicle Cotswolds crash named

The incident happened as emergency services were called to the A44 between Enstone and London Road in Chipping Norton at around 3.20pm on Wednesday, July 9. A grey Audi A3, a grey Jaguar XE, a black Ford Puma and a grey Seat Leon were all involved in the smash. The Ford driver, an 85-year-old man, died at the scene.

The Audi driver, a man in his 60s, suffered life-threatening injuries. On July 19 Thames Valley Police said a woman in her 70s, who was a passenger in the Ford, died after suffering life-threatening injuries in the crash. The man has since been named as Kenneth Norman Wright at an inquest opening held by senior coroner Darren Salter on July 14 at Oxford Coroner's Court.

The finance director was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire and resided at Aston Magna, Moreton-In-Marsh. The opening heard that Mr Wright died at Broadstone Estate, Enstone after travelling in a vehicle involved in a crash. At 10.25pm that same day a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service member of staff verified his death.

His cause of death following a post mortem has been given as 'multiple injuries'. The full inquest is set to take place at 2pm on January 8, 2026, at the same court. The woman in her 70s has not been named, and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.

On July 19 investigating officer detective sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Tragically, a second person has now died following this collision. "Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this extremely difficult time and we have specially-trained officers supporting her family. "If anyone witnessed the incident, has dash-camera footage or any information to assist our investigation, please get in touch.

The Jaguar driver, a man in his 60s, suffered minor injuries and required hospital treatment but has since been discharged. An officer said on July 9: "We would ask motorists to avoid the area and the road is likely to be closed for a number of hours into this evening."

Following the crash Enstone ward councillor Alex Wilson said: "My heart and thoughts go out to all those involved and their loved ones, I am sorry to hear of the gentleman who has passed away in this incident and hope those injured get all the help they need to make a full recovery.
