Man fighting for life after M6 crash where van hit stopped skip wagon

A man is fighting for his life after a van hit a stopped skip wagon on the M6[1]. Lancashire[2] Police were called to the M6 northbound just after Charnock Richard services at 10.45am on Friday, July 18. Once at the scene, emergency services found a van had crashed into a stationary skip wagon between junction 27 (Standish) and 28 (Leyland[3]). It was reported on INRIX a lorry had caught fire on the carriageway.

The van driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital at this time. The motorway was completely blocked for much of the day, with severe delays at rush hour.
