Man riding lifesaving motorbike killed in crash

A man has died in a crash involving a van and a Blood Bikes motorcycle in west Wales. The collision happened on Wednesday evening on a section of the A478 near Crymych in Pembrokeshire[1].

The rider of the motorcycle, who was in his 70s, died at the scene. Police have confirmed that the bike was a motorcycle owned by Blood Bikes Wales, a volunteer based charity which delivers blood samples and other crucial items for the NHS[2] across the country.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving in connection with the death.

A section of the A478 was shut overnight and reopened early on Thursday morning.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We are investigating a road traffic collision which occurred on the A478 between Glandy Cross and Blaenffos, at around 6.25pm on Wednesday, July 2.

"The collision involved a white Volkswagen van and a red Honda Blood Bikes Wales motorcycle. Sadly, a man in his 70s, who was riding the motorcycle, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

One man, aged 56, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
