Number of drivers caught by A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass speed camera
Hundreds of drivers were caught out by a speed camera installed on the A46 Coventry[1] Eastern Bypass. A temporary speed limit was brought in due to roadworks last year. The speed limit was reduced to 50mph and a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request to Warwickshire[2] Police force has revealed that more than 1,000 drivers were caught breaking the limit.
The FOI also revealed that the highest speed clocked on the bypass last year was 85mph, by a Ford vehicle. "The matter was prosecuted through the court," the FOI response explained. The FOI response said that it led to 951 of those drivers being sent notices of intended prosecution. There could be further temporary speed limits put in place on the A46 Walsgrave[4] junction as part of the huge project. If agreed, it would lead to narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit for 75 weeks.
National Highways revealed it wants to build a new separated junction and link road on the A46 at Walsgrave, part of Coventry's eastern bypass.
CoventryLive previously reported that, if approved by the government, work would start in autumn 2026 at the earliest and finish in spring 2028.
