Serious Surrey M3 crash that closed carriageway leaves two in hospital as air ambulance called
Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious multi-vehicle crash on the Surrey section of the M3 which involved a car transporter and a van. The crash, which occurred at around 12.30pm on Wednesday (July 30), left a significant section of the M3 Southbound, between junction 3 for Lightwater and 4 for Camberley[1], closed for over an hour. According to the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB), an air ambulance arrived at the scene, where two people were assessed and treated before being taken to Frimley[2] Park Hospital by road.
As a result of the crash, the Northbound carriageway was also briefly closed, despite the crash taking place on the opposite carriageway. A spokesperson for the ambulance service told Surrey Live: "SECAmb was called shortly after 12.30pm today to reports of a road traffic collision on the M3 southbound between Junctions 3 and 4. "Crews were joined at the scene by the air ambulance charity Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Two patients were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Frimley Park Hospital by road." Surrey Police[3] also arrived on the scene of the crash, with a spokesperson for the force saying: "Officers were called to the southbound carriageway of the M3 between J3 and J4 shortly after 12.30pm this afternoon following reports of a collision involving two vehicles at the location. "The northbound carriageway was temporarily closed, and the southbound carriageway remains closed at this time to allow for vehicle recovery.
"The closure and subsequent reopening of the road is being managed by Highways England.
Two people have been taken to hospital for medical treatment."
