Southend and Basildon people sentenced by magistrates

A MAN who refused to hand driver details to police has been slapped with a large fine. Finley Hall, of Waarem Avenue, Canvey, failed to give information to the Metropolitan Police relating to the driver of an Audi accused of an offence on May 16 last year. The 24-year-old denied this but was found guilty at Ealing Magistrates' Court last Wednesday.

He has been fined GBP455, ordered to pay prosecution costs of GBP100 and a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP182. His driving record was also endorsed with six points. A MAN caught with a class A drug has been ordered to pay more than GBP200.

Shane Finn, of Clayburn Gardens, South Ockendon, was found in possession of a quantity of cocaine in Ilford on Sunday. He was charged with two counts of possession of a class A drug and appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court the following day where he admitted both counts. The 35-year-old has been ordered to pay a GBP120.

He must also pay GBP85 in costs to the prosecution service. A MAN caught with a weapon designed for the discharge of CS gas has been hit with a fine. Tomas Pikunas, of Meadow Drive, South Ockendon, was in Clackets Lane, Surrey, when he was found in possession of the weapon on December 4, 2023.

The 37-year-old admitted the offence and was fined GBP184 at Guildford Magistrates' Court last Tuesday. He was ordered to pay GBP85 in prosecution costs and a GBP74 surcharge to fund victim services. Magistrates also ordered for the weapon to be forfeited and destroyed.

A MAN who failed to hand driver details to police has been banned from the roads. Chukwuebuka Ubabuko, of Southernhay Close, Basildon, failed to give information to the chief officer of police for Greater Manchester relating to the driver of a Toyota C-HR accused of an offence. Ubabuko, 39, was convicted and banned from driving for six months at Bolton Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 27.

He was also fined GBP660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP264 and costs of GBP120. He must pay in full by July 25. A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel at more than double the legal limit has been banned from the roads.

Bradley Sedge, of Ferry Road, Hullbridge, was driving an Audi A5 on Newham Way in Newham, east London when he was found with 80 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35. He admitted the June 11 offence at Thames Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 26, where he was banned from driving for a year and five months.

The 31-year-old has also been fined GBP923, ordered to pay prosecution costs of GBP85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP369. A BANNED driver caught riding an e-bike without insurance has been hit with a community order. Joshua Lovell, of Moretons Court, Basildon, was riding the Caofen e-bike on Kinson Road in Bournemouth when he was already disqualified and uninsured.

He admitted the May 1 offences at Poole Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, July 2, where he was given a year-long community order. The 33-year-old must take part in 20 rehabilitation days and pay a GBP50 fine. He was also further banned for six months.

A SPEEDING driver caught above a 50mph limit has been slapped with a fine. Luthando Merrimen Ndayi, of Bruce Grove, Wickford, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes on the A338 in Christchurch when he was caught exceeding the 50 miles per hour speed limit on August 23, 2023. He admitted speeding at Weymouth Combined Court on Tuesday, July 1,where he was fined GBP115.

His driving record was endorsed with three points. The 49-year-old was also ordered to pay a GBP46 surcharge and GBP130 costs. A SPEEDING motorist caught going above 80mph has avoided a driving ban.

Michael Farley, of River View Close, Laindon, was driving on the M4 in Maidenhead, Berkshire, on July 3 last year when he was recorded going at 81 miles per hour. The limit is 70. The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and Farley was fined GBP266 at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 24.

Magistrates did not issue a disqualification due to Farley being the main carer and driver for his son. The 58-year-old's driving record was endorsed with three penalty points. A WOMAN who refused to give driver details to police has been slapped with a fine.

Susan Land, of Ravensfield, Basildon, failed to give information to Thames Valley Police relating to a Ford driver accused of an offence on September 5 last year. She was found guilty at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 27, where she was fined GBP600. The 61-year-old was also ordered to pay GBP325 in costs and a GBP264 victim surcharge.

Her driving record was endorsed with six points. A SPEEDING driver caught above a 40mph limit has been banned from the roads. Martin Leech, of Andersons, Corringham, was driving a Vauxhall Mokka on the A1270 in Norfolk when he was recorded going above the 40 miles per hour speed limit on October 30.

He admitted speeding at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 24, where he was banned from driving for six months. The 65-year-old was also fined GBP53, ordered to pay prosecution costs of GBP120 and a GBP21 surcharge to fund victim services. A LORRY driver caught using his phone behind the wheel has been slapped with a large fine and banned.

Jamie Jennings, of Plaistow Close, Stanford-le-Hope, was driving a DAF truck along London Road in Wrentham, Suffolk, when he was found using a mobile phone on January 28. He admitted the offence at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on June 24 where he was fined GBP729 and banned from driving for six months. The 35-year-old was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of GBP120 and a GBP292 victim surcharge.

A SPEEDING van driver has been hit with a fine. Danny Lee, of Buckles Lane, South Ockendon, was driving a Mercedes Sprinter on East Smithfield in Aldgate when he was recorded going above the 20mph limit on August 26 last year. The 56-year-old admitted the offence at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 17, where he was fined GBP146.

He was also handed three penalty points, ordered to pay costs of GBP130 and a GBP58 victim surcharge. A FORD driver caught using his phone behind the wheel has been banned from the roads. Joe Barnett, of Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, was driving along Upper Thames Street near Blackfriars, in east London, when he was found using his mobile on May 27.

The 25-year-old was convicted and banned from driving for six months at City of London Magistrates' Court last Tuesday. He has also been fined GBP269. Magistrates ordered Barnett to pay prosecution costs of GBP110 and a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP108.

A MOTORIST who left his car in a "dangerous position" has been hit with a large fine. James Cooney, of Laurel Avenue, Wickford, was in charge of a Renault Traffic when he caused the vehicle to remain at rest on the A360 in Salisbury, in such a position as to involve a danger of injury. He admitted causing a vehicle to be left in a dangerous position at Salisbury Law Courts last Thursday where he was fined GBP300.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay prosecution costs of GBP85 and a GBP120 victim surcharge. His driving record has been endorsed with three penalty points. A SPEEDING driver caught above the limit on two major roads has been hit with a ban.

Steven Markham, of Rivenhall, Wickford, was driving a Ford Transit van on the A127 Southend-bound in Wickford when he was recorded going above the 50mph limit on September 25 last year. He was later caught exceeding the 50mph on the A282 Dartford tunnel approach road on October 5. The 58-year-old both counts at Maidstone Magistrates' Court last Thursday where he was banned from driving for 55 days and fined GBP166.

A SPEEDING driver caught above the limit on a major road has been fined. Danny Lee, of Buckles Lane, South Ockendon, was driving a Mercedes Sprinter van on the A1203 in Aldgate when he was recorded going above the 20mph limit on August 26 last year. He admitted speeding at Stratford Magistrates' Court on June 17 where he was fined GBP146 and handed three penalty points.

The 56-year-old was also ordered to pay GBP130 costs and a GBP58 surcharge. A WOMAN who breached a court order has been handed a suspended prison sentence. Brunilda Onuzi, of Heygate Avenue, Southend, failed to comply with the community order made by Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on May 1 by not attending initial office appointments on May 16 and 27.

She admitted the breach at Folkestone Magistrates' Court last Wednesday and the original order was revoked. The 38-year-old was sentenced to prison for one month, suspended for six months, due to her "wilful and persistent failure to comply with the requirements of a community order". A MAN who attacked two women has been punished with a community order.

Thomas Haden, of Flemming Avenue, Leigh, assaulted the women by beating them in the Barking and Dagenham area, in east London, on November 30 last year. He admitted two counts of assault by beating, as well as criminal damage for destroying one of the women's laptops, on May 23. Haden, 38, was sentenced to a year-and-a-half long community order, including five months of electronic monitoring, at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 20.

He was also fined GBP584 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of GBP234. A MOTORIST who kept a car despite it not meeting insurance requirements has been fined. Seylyan Shevka, of Clay Hill Road, Basildon, was found to have kept the vehicle on February 3, 2021.

This was proved in her absence at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 18. The 34-year-old has been fined GBP220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP88 and costs of GBP100. A MOTORIST who kept a car which did not meet insurance requirements has been slapped with a fine.

Emiliano Bardheci, 26, was found to have kept the vehicle in Southend on September 22, 2023. This was proved in his absence, after the case was re-opened on April 25, at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 18. Bardheci, of Shakespeare Drive, Westcliff, has been fined GBP220 and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP88.

He was also ordered to pay costs of GBP100. A VAN driver who failed to stop or report a crash has been hit with a fine. Kalum Bama, of Meadow Drive, South Ockendon, was driving a Mercedes Sprinter without due care and attention on Fyfield Road in Rainham when he crashed into a parked Audi A1 car on December 5.

He failed to stop after the accident and later failed to report it to police. The 23-year-old admitted all three offences at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday, June 30, where he was fined GBP461. Bama must also pay GBP130 costs and a GBP184 victim surcharge.

His driving record was endorsed with five points. A WOMAN caught speeding on the A13 has been banned from the roads. Tayjah Waldron, 22, was driving a Volkswagen Golf on the major road in Purfleet when she was recorded going above the 50mph limit on September 13.

Waldron, of Hartington Street, Manchester, was later caught going above the limit on the same stretch on October 7. She admitted both counts of speeding and was banned from driving for 28 days at Bolton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, July 2. Waldron was also fined GBP138.

A FARE dodger caught at a train station without a ticket has been ordered to pay almost GBP700. Moginee Saminaiken, of Thorrington Cross, Basildon, entered a compulsory ticket area at South Tottenham without having paid the fare on February 3. This was proved in her absence at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court on Monday, June 16.

The 36-year-old has been fined GBP220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of GBP88 as well as costs of GBP375. Magistrates made a collection order for the total to be paid by July 14. A DRINK driver caught above the limit on a main road has been banned from the roads.

Dean Beattie, of Maple Mead, Great Burstead, was driving along Eastern Avenue in Romford in the early hours when he was found with 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood on May 31. He also had no licence. The 42-year-old admitted both offences at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 20, where he was banned from driving for a year and four months.

He was also fined GBP576, ordered to pay costs of GBP85 and a surcharge of GBP230.
