‘Staggering’ overweight scaffolding van seized on M60

Police from GMP's commercial vehicles unit reported on Saturday, July 19 that they had stopped the van on the M60 after being concerned about its weight. They say they then discovered that not only was the van 50 per cent overweight, but that the driver's licence had expired. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "This scaffolding van was stopped by Commercial Vehicles Unit officers on the M60 for load security issues.

"Further checks revealed that the van was 50 per cent overweight, coming in at a staggering 5.2t and the driver's licence had also expired." Officers say that the van was seized and that the driver was reported and given a PG170 ticket. An image supplied by police[1] at the scene[2] shows the van loaded up with scaffolding having been seized.
