Wiltshire Police snare drivers in speed crackdown
On July 24 and 25, officers were deployed to thoroughfares in Chippenham, and Calne in a bid to catch speeding drivers and make the roads safer. The crackdown follows a number of serious crashes across the county - as part of the operation, the police added it was penalising speeding drivers in a bid to improve safety. Posting on social media, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "On 24 and 25 July, officers were out across Chippenham and Calne carrying out speed checks in the following areas: Malmesbury Road and London Road, Chippenham; A4 Studley; Sandpits Rd and Oxford Road, Calne."
"8 drivers were reported for speeding.
1 van was seized for no insurance. "With a number of serious collisions across Wiltshire recently, we're reminding drivers that speeding is one of the Fatal Five. Speed limits exist for a reason.
A fine and penalty points are the legal outcome, but the real risk is to someone's life."
"Be safe, drive smart and watch your speed."
