The ride will help raise awareness of the Care of Police Survivors (CoPS) charity, which support the families left behind, a police spokesperson said. Lee Chapman, a digital forensics technical manager in the force, is riding for PC Richard Ellerker, who was on patrol in York when he arrested a drunk and violent man on Boxing Day 1993 - he was injured and a short while later collapsed and died of a heart attack. Lee said: "It's an honour to ride in remembrance and raise money for those affected."
Assistant chief officer Lisa Stitt is riding for PC Rosie Prior who died whilst on duty on January 11 this year. She said: "I'm the rookie of the group. "I've never done anything like this before, but I'm determined.
"The work of CoPS is so important supporting families and creating a lasting legacy for those we've lost. "The pain of the ride is nothing compared to the strength of those families." Deputy chief constable Scott Bissett is riding for PC Glenn Robinson who died in a crash on the A59 when coming home from duty on July 27, 2005.
DCC Bissett said: "I've worked with colleagues who have been lost in the line of duty and seen the impact on their families and friends. "I want to represent North Yorkshire Police at its best. "The final ride into the memorial will be incredibly moving."
Fleet manager Dave Higo is riding for PC Andrew Bramma who was fatally injured on January 5, 2013, when his patrol van left the road as he answered an emergency call in West Tanfield, near Ripon. Dave said: "I've always taken on physical challenges, but this one is special. "It's a great cause and a great team."
Police constable Joshua Snaith is riding for the fourth year, this year doing so for PC David Haigh, who was fatally shot by a man at Norwood Plantation Edge near Harrogate on June 17, 1982. PC Snaith said: "Each mile is a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. "This year is especially poignant after the loss of PC Rosie Prior - North Yorkshire Police's 10th fallen officer.
"I ride to honour them and support their families." Police staff investigator Doug Stanway is riding for PC Nina Mackay, a Met Police officer who he served with and who was fatally stabbed on October 24, 1997. He said: ""In my 40 years of service, I've sadly known colleagues who didn't make it home.
"I feel privileged to take part in this event and raise funds for CoPS, who provide vital support to those left behind." In the tour support team will be DC Marie Williams and Chief Inspector Dave Anderson. DC Williams is wearing a wristband for PC Ingram who was attending an emergency call in Scarborough in the early hours of August 27, 1993, when his patrol car left the road and he was fatally injured.
She said: "I wear a band with one of the names of our fallen officers each year and take part to ensure their memory lives on. "CoPS provides essential care to families when the unthinkable happens." CI Anderson will be wearing a wristband for Sergeant David Winter.
On June 28, 1982, Sgt Winter was hunting the killer of PC Haigh and others, when he confronted the armed suspect at Malton and was fatally shot.
A memorial stone was unveiled in 2023 at the location to pay tribute to him.
