A12 Essex road closed after serious crash near Boreham

Essex Police confirmed they were on scene investigating the incident from 4.41am, with the closure expected to remain in place while their work continues between Junction 19 (Boreham) and Junction 20 (Hatfield Peverel). The road has since re-opened northbound but it remains closed southbound. Police are urging motorists to avoid the area entirely and find alternative routes while the investigation takes place.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "The A12 has been closed northbound between junction 19 for Boreham and junction 20 for Hatfield Peverel due to a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry. "The closure is likely to remain in place into the morning rush hour, so please avoid the area if possible or leave extra time for your journey. "The southbound carriageway has also been closed and it is hoped this stretch will open shortly."

The A12 is a major arterial route connecting London to the east coast, and the closure between these junctions affects one of the busiest sections in Essex.
