A19: Nissan Juke driver dies after DAF lorry crash

North Yorkshire Police said the fatal collision happened yesterday (August 1) around 10.30am on the A19 at Riccall, at the northbound junction with York Road. John Michael Duggan, the 81-year-old driver of a black Nissan Juke was joining the A19 from York Road when a white DAF skip lorry collided with his vehicle, police said. A force spokesperson said Mr Duggan, from Riccall, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance with serious injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Mr Duggan's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trainer officers, police said. A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The driver of the DAF skip lorry, a 42-year-old man from York, was arrested at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. "The road was closed for several hours to allow officers to investigate the scene, and the vehicles involved to be safely recovered.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to contact us. "If you can help, please email [email protected][1]. "Alternatively, you can call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
