A229 Linton Road in Loose shut as cyclist airlifted to London hospital after collision with van

A road was shut in both directions after a "serious collision" involving a cyclist and a van. The A229 Linton Road, Loose[1], was closed to motorists for more than 10 hours while police investigated the scene.

Officers are now appealing for dashcam footage and witnesses to come forward following the accident, while the rider is in a serious condition in hospital. It happened at around 5.30am, between Old Loose Hill and Rosemount Close, and the route wasn't reopened until just before 4pm.

There are still delays in and around the area, with people being asked to consider alternative routes. One motorist said: "The closure is causing carnage. A 0.6 mile journey says it will take 24 minutes to drive on my Sat Nav.

"There are lots of lorries not knowing what to do and other drivers turning around in the middle of the street.

"Traffic is backed up to Domino's on Loose Road and drivers are stopping to tell others that the road is closed, it's a mess." A Kent Police spokesman confirmed patrols are were at the scene of the "serious collision".

He said: "It is reported that a collision took place involving a white van and a cyclist, near the junction with Rosemount Close. "Officers attended along with paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service."

The ambulance service confirmed crews treated one patient at the scene, who was then flown to King's College Hospital in London.

It was previously believed that a pedestrian had been injured. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now urging motorists who were in the area at the time to check for any relevant dashcam footage. Footage can be uploaded via the online portal by clicking here.[2]
