A350 traffic chaos at Chippenham as police called to crash

Officers were called to the A350 at Chippenham, between Chequers Roundabout and Bumpers Farm Roundabout, at around 11.30am on Tuesday, August 19. Police were responding to a crash between a large HGV and a car on the route after the car suffered significant damage. Two police cars arrived at the scene and diverted traffic around the two vehicles on the northbound carriageway.

During this time there were long queues of traffic in both directions with cars taking it in turns to pass the incident. Suggested reading These queues tailed back towards Chequers Roundabout and Bumpers Farm Roundabout.

Traffic has since eased in the area. There remains some congestion on the northbound carriageway, with major roadworks ongoing on the approach to Bumpers Farm Roundabout. Only one lane on the northbound approach has been in use this week, while Wiltshire Council contractors continue works to turn the stretch of road into a dual carriageway.

This multi-million-pound scheme has been underway for several months and will continue until late 2026.
