A422 Alcester Road man dies in crash between van and lorry

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to an incident on the A422 Alcester Road in Kington at 4.51pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 30) and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham to the scene. An off-duty paramedic also stopped to offer assistance at the scene. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Ambulance crews arrived to find the van driver, a man, trapped inside his vehicle in a critical condition.

He was already receiving medical attention from an off-duty paramedic. "Ambulance crews worked alongside colleagues from the fire service to try and free the man whilst providing treatment at the same time. "Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

West Mercia Police are also appealing for key witnesses to the collision between the blue Ford Transit van and a lorry. A third vehicle, a white Renault Trafic van, was on the road at the time of the collision, and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.

It is believed the two vans were travelling behind each other from Inkberrow towards Worcester. No one else was injured during the incident. Detective Sergeant Rose Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life yesterday.

"Enquiries to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision are on-going, and we are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or the involved vehicles in the moments before.
